Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 9th edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025 on October 8, 2025, at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. In his address, he emphasized India’s significant strides in digital connectivity, stating, “Today, the cost of one GB of wireless data in India is less than the price of a cup of tea.” He highlighted that India now ranks among the top countries globally in terms of user data consumption, underscoring the nation’s progress in democratizing digital technology.
PM Modi also reflected on the journey of the Digital India initiative, launched a decade ago, which identified four key pillars: reducing device costs, ensuring nationwide digital connectivity, making data widely accessible, and adopting a ‘digital-first’ approach. He noted that these efforts have transformed digital connectivity from a luxury to an integral part of everyday life for millions of Indians.
Additionally, PM Modi took the opportunity to critique the previous government’s approach to technology and infrastructure, contrasting it with the current administration’s proactive stance in fostering digital innovation and self-reliance. He emphasized that under the present leadership, India is not just a consumer of technology but is actively contributing to its development and global standards.
The IMC 2025, themed ‘Innovate to Transform,’ serves as a platform for showcasing advancements in telecom and technology, reflecting India’s commitment to becoming a global leader in the digital era.
